Spotlight: Steve L., Utilities General Manager
Great service starts with great leadership, and Steve L. is an outstanding example of what it takes not only to lead this team but to exemplify our Core Values of Safety, Integrity, Initiative, and Teamwork.
Steve was recently promoted to his role as Utilities General Manager in April, bringing to the table a solid background of utilities experience and a deep understanding of the field. His journey at Brubacher started in 2010 as a Vac Truck Operator. From there, he climbed the ladder as a Directional Drill Operator, Supervisor, and Pipe Supervisor.
“Brubacher shows support to those who show Initiative,” says Steve. “When I was promoted to Pipe Supervisor, I wanted to finish my career in the utilities industry. One of my biggest contributors to wanting to continue and grow my journey here at Brubacher is the relationships that you build.”
Steve brings over 15 years of experience and field-tested knowledge to his role. For him, the qualities that make a great team member include clear communication, collaborative planning, and empowering his team to operate effectively, even when he is not present.
“Meeting with new clients and building more relationships is a key part of this role,” he shares, “and it wouldn’t be possible without the utilities team that we have.”
Steve believes the best team members are respectful, cooperative, trustworthy, and always eager to learn.
“I’m a motivated person. I want to continue to learn and grow,” added Steve, “One of my sayings is…if you are the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room. So, I like to surround myself with people who are going to teach and grow you as a person and return that to the team.”
An Uncommonly Refreshing Impact on Our Communities: From the Ground Up
Most people never see the work Brubacher does beneath their feet; however, the work the Utilities Infrastructure teams do affects the essential needs for their daily lives.
“The impact that it gives them down the road is that they have reliable heat for their homes,” says Steve. “They have clean water to drink and bathe in and a sewer that’s not contaminating the nearby stream…”
Beyond full-scope development, Brubacher has expanded its capabilities to include a growing portfolio of standalone utilities projects. Steve has played a key role in many underground utilities installations, notably the Aqua Planebrook Sewer Project in Malvern, PA, an example of Brubacher’s expertise in delivering complex infrastructure solutions with precision and reliability.
Brubacher has also been working closely with Aqua Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania American Water Company, and others to update residential water lines throughout Chester, Bucks, Montgomery, and Delaware Counties, improving water quality and availability to existing and upcoming neighborhoods.
These projects are a clear example of how utility upgrades can drive long-lasting impacts in the communities we serve and our commitment to Shaping The World We Live In.
What’s next for Utilities Infrastructure at Brubacher?
With the recent strategic acquisitions of Abel Construction and Abel Recon, Brubacher will be able to take its Utilities Infrastructure services to the next level, strengthening our footprint throughout the Mid-Atlantic (PA, OH, NJ, DE, MD). These new investments will also bring new capabilities for rehabilitating failing pipes and structures.
The new services will include cured-in-place pipe liners (CIPP) and a structural spray-in-place liner. The CIPP liner is America’s first UV-cured liners system. Alphaliner™, manufactured by Reline America, was founded in 2005 and promptly had Abel Recon as their first certified installer in the country. Sprayroq manufactures SprayWall, a structural, spray-applied polyurethane. Founded in 1990, this liner is responsible for the rehabilitation of over one million structures worldwide and pioneered the adaption to fully structural designed systems.
As Brubacher expands its capacity to serve clients and community, it’s crucial that we have the right tools and the right people to make a lasting impact in all areas we serve.
