Growth, Stress, and Resistance Training...
The Brubacher team of construction professionals is experiencing growth, both in expanding their capacity and in advancing the business. We have also acknowledged experiencing stress, often followed up with the statement, “At least it’s good stress!”. It seems people naturally understand the basic value of challenges, and the ones we choose to face head-on. In our case, it was a business acquisition. Perhaps in your personal life, it could be the choice to become a parent.
At a recent Board meeting, Director Randy Blount encouraged our team to view stress as Resistance Training that builds strength and capacity. After all, who says they’re going to the gym or on a strenuous hike to ‘stress myself out’? Instead, we engage in resistance training to build strength and endurance so we can accomplish more of our goals in the future. We voluntarily push ourselves beyond where we once were, often causing temporary discomfort, spurred on by the vision of what we hope to do or be in the months or years ahead.
This is a useful framework with which to think about times of growth and challenge in business as well. The recent acquisition of Abel Recon and Abel Construction brings opportunity for growth in revenue diversification and the overall strength of our team. It is a time that both reveals the strength of and provides ‘Resistance Training’ for the Brubacher team! We are welcoming new team members, clients, and business partners while merging business systems and operations, all with the vision of being Uncommonly Refreshing in our Approach to People, Projects, and Solutions.
We also need to be aware as leaders that the decisions we make, like a new business pursuit or initiative, often create unexpected, or in some cases, unwelcome ‘Resistance Training’ in the lives of others. That may include team members, clients, and subcontractors or vendors. The Brubacher management team made a commitment to show empathy and be positive as we relate to others during our transition. We certainly don’t have it all figured out perfectly as we strive for excellence and improvement every day. We look forward to sharing more about our team and the expanded capabilities they bring to Brubacher in the future!
