Mary Yardley Pedestrian Bridge
Providing Insight. On Site. for the Rebuilding of a Beloved Pedestrian Bridge
The heart of Yardley, Pennsylvania, has been transformed with the meticulous rebuilding of the Mary Yardley Pedestrian Bridge. This significant community connector, spanning the Delaware Canal, has been revitalized by Brubacher’s Special Projects team in collaboration with Remington and Vernick Engineers and the Borough of Yardley. Although not large in scale, the project was complex due to the involvement of multiple public and private sector stakeholders and an incredibly unique site.
The project involved replacing the old, deteriorated bridge with a new fiberglass structure—an innovative first for the Brubacher team. Though exclusive of most traditional excavation services that Brubacher typically delivers, intricate site preparation in removing the existing bridge was essential for the new fiberglass bridge’s installation. The bridge components for that new span were assembled on-site and lifted into place, requiring precise project planning and exceptional problem-solving skills. The assembly process presented a unique challenge, but the team’s confident approach ensured its success.
The weight and placement of the new bridge, complicated by nearby power lines, required a creative solution to keep the project moving forward in the safest and most efficient way possible. The team used a telehandler and a man lift to dismantle the old bridge and install the new one, showcasing their dedication to risk mitigation and ingenuity. Living our core value of Safety was a priority throughout the entirety of this special construction project, involving fall protection measures and water safety protocols due to fluctuating canal water levels beneath the bridge.
The Mary Yardley Pedestrian Bridge stands as a testament to the community’s resilience and Brubacher’s commitment to innovation and safety. Learn more about this and other recent projects that demonstrate the Brubacher team’s diverse capabilities in our latest edition of The Latest Scoop!
