At Brubacher, excellence is never achieved alone. While our expansive in-house team leads the way in excavation, sitework, utilities, paving operations, and more, we rely on a trusted network of specialty subcontractors to bring additional strength, skill, and precision to each job. These trade partners play a crucial role in enabling us to deliver high-quality results, meet demanding schedules, and provide a seamless experience for our clients.

This feature shines the spotlight on three of those valued partners: Stief Concrete Work, Inc., Pickering Valley Landscape, Inc., and Precise Concrete Walls, Inc. These experienced teams bring more than just technical expertise to each job. They bring a strong work ethic, a spirit of collaboration, and a shared commitment to the Brubacher ethos of doing the right thing.

Aligned Values. Shared Commitment.

At our core, Brubacher’s subcontractor selection process prioritizes alignment between teams in several key ways. Allan D., Brubacher’s Director of Estimating and Project Management, shared, “We look for subcontractors whose operating principles align with ours and who are able to meet the needs of Brubacher and our clients relative to safety, quality, and schedule.”

That mindset is something long-standing partners recognize and appreciate. Pickering Valley Landscape, a specialized hardscape and landscape services contractor based in Chester County, PA, has decades of experience in building retaining walls and other landscape features. Jon Calle, VP of Construction, noted, “We’ve worked with Brubacher on countless projects. What stands out most is the level of respect and organization they bring. They’re proactive, clear with expectations, and lead with integrity.”

The same sentiment was shared by Shawn Hollinger, Vice President of the Site Work Division at Stief Concrete Work, Inc., a family-owned concrete company in New Holland, PA, with deep roots in the community and a strong reputation in the commercial construction sector.  He shared, “We recently worked together with Brubacher on a school project in Berks County. Their team was well-prepared and treated us with respect. That kind of subcontractor relationship keeps the job running smoothly.” Brubacher and Stief Concrete have had a working relationship since the 1980’s.

Whether partnering with concrete contractors, wall construction specialists, or landscape professionals, Brubacher looks beyond technical expertise. “In the same way we do our best to align ourselves with clients who honor and hold the same values as Brubacher, we hope the same is true for our subcontractors,” Allan said.

True Partnership in Action: Communication, Coordination, and Mutual Respect

Subcontractor relationships grow stronger through open communication, mutual accountability, and shared responsibility. “We maintain open communication and keep accountability flowing both ways,” Allan emphasized. That culture helps create project environments where everyone feels supported and empowered to succeed.

Matt King, Owner of Precise Concrete Walls, Inc., a dependable resource for all types of foundations, concrete walls, and concrete flatwork since 1989, pointed to coordination as a key factor: “Brubacher uses clear scheduling tools and gives advance notice of upcoming tasks. That communication helps us stay on track and deliver quality work.”

This unified approach is essential in fast-paced or complex projects. Allan shared examples of other trusted trade partners whose professionalism truly made a difference in challenging circumstances on the job. He noted the team’s appreciation for Iron Stag Crane Service, who practiced flexibility to adjust to shifting weather delays, and also highlighted Almeida & Hudak Contractors, whose teamwork and initiative helped navigate late-stage design changes during a challenging pump station build.

When subcontractors are treated as true partners, the results speak for themselves. “Brubacher creates an environment where you feel like a valued member of the team,” Pickering Valley’s Calle said. “That shared sense of responsibility improves outcomes for everyone involved.”

Supporting Each Other for Mutual Success

Trustworthy subcontractors don’t just complete a task—they elevate the project as a whole. For Brubacher, this collaboration enables our team to focus on the land clearing, site development, utility, and commercial paving services we self-perform while bringing in skilled specialists to complement the work. “It ultimately lets us provide a more complete package for our clients,” Allan explained. “Our subcontractor network strengthens everything we do in service of Shaping The World We Live In.

That network is made up of professionals who understand that excellence means more than simply checking boxes. It means showing up with urgency, clarity, humility, and a sense of pride. As Stief’s Hollinger put it, “Brubacher understands how to treat subcontractors with fairness and professionalism. That makes all the difference.”

For those who aspire to build a lasting relationship with Brubacher, Allan offers this guidance: “If your values align with Brubacher, you’re competitive in the market, and meet the expectations of safety, quality, and schedule, we may be a good fit.”

Ultimately, Brubacher’s success as an excavating contractor, paving contractor, and trusted construction partner is built on more than what happens in the field. It’s built on people. It’s built on doing things the right way. And most of all, it’s built on trust.
