Restoring Floodplains for Stormwater Management and Environmental Benefits

Construction sitework at Painters Crossing, a condominium complex community in Delaware County, PA, required earthwork services in a wetlands area. The site, which included a pond, dam, and impoundment, was located within the region of a floodplain where flooding and erosion were occurring. Brubacher’s strategic approach to project planning and commitment to being good stewards of our natural environment resulted in successful stream channel realignment and naturalization, as well as a complete culvert replacement.

Brubacher’s collaboration with LandStudies, Inc. contributed to turnkey stormwater management solutions benefiting the owner, community, and surrounding natural landscape. Decades of experience and Insight. On Site. from our team members also played a key role in our approach to land clearing, earthwork, risk mitigation, and excavation and grading services that helped return the area to a wetland (as it naturally was prior to settlement). In addition to meeting stormwater management needs, restoring the land to its natural layout can increase buildable square footage for developers.

The many benefits of this specific project for the Painters Crossing community and environment, included:

  • lowering a FEMA 100-year floodplain
  • updating a condominium building to be out of the FEMA-regulated floodplain
  • eliminating maintenance of the pond and liability associated with ownership of the dam and spillway
  • improving long-term stability of the site, bio-diversity and aesthetics
  • reducing erosion and sediment deposition downstream
  • reducing pollution and improving water quality
  • improving infrastructure protection, infiltration, and system stability

A thoughtful project design and a dedicated team to execute all earthwork services were key to bringing this project to life and to being good stewards of both our client’s financial resources and the environment. Our crews worked diligently to meet project goals safely and on time, with the continuous goal of maintaining positive relationships with our client, the conservation districts, municipalities, and partner contractors. It’s all an important part of our mission of Shaping The World We Live In.
