Beating All Odds to Complete Substation Sitework Safely and On Time
As the site development contractor for this project in Bowmansville, PA, we worked closely with the power company to perform civil improvements for the construction of a new substation on a property that consisted of agricultural fields, a central natural waterway, and an old, abandoned building. This complex jobsite makeup, combined with an initial delay through the approval process (out of both our and the client’s control) and other site-specific complications, required careful application of Insight. On Site. to assure our client that safety and environmental protection would not be compromised and project goals would be achieved, as promised.
From the project planning process to site development and risk management services, our team executed a strategic approach from start to finish. The natural waterway required attention to detail and careful execution to ensure the water would be kept clean during construction. To achieve this, our crews formed a cofferdam and bypass pump to handle the water, while realigning the stream built from river rock. Throughout the sitework, our team discovered areas in the contracted design that required adjustments. We continued to work closely with both our client and their civil engineer to finalize the needed details, helping minimize client stress and manage project cost impacts. We also worked closely with the line contractor to coordinate space where installation of new power lines would take place.
Against all odds of starting a large earthmoving project in the middle of winter, our team expedited the schedule by maximizing working hours, working efficiently, and responding quickly to any concerns, resulting in final delivery to the substation contractor on time. This was just the beginning of what is now an ongoing, long-term, successful partnership with our client, built on collaboration, mutual trust, and complete client satisfaction. We continue to serve as the trusted site contractor for the power company’s various substation, transmission line, and duct bank projects.
