Our Values

Making the Grade

For our Making the Grade program, Brubacher team members nominate a co-worker each month for modeling our core values and going beyond his or her job description to help our company live out our mission, vision and values. Management then selects a winner, who receives $250 for them and a $500 donation to the charity of their choice.

Making the Grade: Matt L.

Matt L - MTG

Matt L. has been an integral part of a Brubacher pipe crew for three years. Beyond installing water mains, sanitary and storm sewers, Matt focuses on workplace safety. He values Brubacher’s dedication to ensuring everyone makes it home safely to their families and does his part by stepping in to lead the crew and check for excavation safety.
Matt’s commitment to safety on- and off-site is just one of the reasons he was nominated for Making the Grade. After shutting down the equipment on a roadway project, Matt and his team heard someone shouting for help. Matt leaped into action. He found an elderly woman who had fallen on her porch and took the initiative to check her for injuries and help her into her home. He even waited with her until he knew a caregiver was on their way.

“I didn’t feel I was doing anything special to earn Making the Grade. It was just the right thing to do,” Matt said. “I feel proud of myself and proud to work for Brubacher. It’s nice to work for people who recognize employees who go above and beyond to live out the company’s core values.”

Matt donated the $500 to Team Jennifer Cahill, a nonprofit charity that helps with the planning and expenses for female veterans who have terminal cancer.

Making the Grade: Wendy D.

Wendy - MTG

For 8 years, Wendy D. has taken care of making sure every Brubacher employee is paid every week. As payroll coordinator, she’s hitting multiple deadlines every week to provide accurate and timely payroll throughout the entire company.

It’s Wendy’s integrity and dedication to her job that the Brubacher team recognizes as worthy of Making the Grade. She works diligently with supervisors and doesn’t rest until the ultimate mission is accomplished – employees are paid.

“I was shocked to hear I earned Making the Grade! I was also very thankful that people recognize what it is I do,” Wendy said. “Payroll is a job that can be underappreciated, but I feel Brubacher sees me and all of the efforts I put into my role.”

In her spare time, Wendy takes care of helpless and injured animals. That is why she was thrilled to donate $500 to the Lancaster Humane Society.
