ABC’s Sunday night show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” has come to Philadelphia.  This hit show is in its second season of rewarding deserving families with a new home.  This show starts with host Ty Pennington’s “Good Morning” wake-up call, and ends seven days later with a brand new house for the family.

On March 22, 2006 “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” came to the Py family’s home.  William and Carole Py lost their 33 year old son-in-law who had an unexpected brain aneurysm in July, 1997.  Soon after, their daughter discovered her breast cancer had returned.  In November, 1998 their daughter lost her battle to breast cancer at age 28, leaving behind three small orphaned children.  Grandma and Grandpop Py took on the responsibility of raising their three grandchildren.  Already having raised and put through college four children of their own, the Py’s were worried about their finances and deteriorating house.  The Py family’s house contained asbestos and lead paint to add to their financial worries.

ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” selected Dewey Companies for their first ever show in Pennsylvania.  Dewey Companies teamed up with over 100 businesses who either helped with construction, donated materials, financially supported, or donated food items for this project.  All work and materials that went toward this project were 100% donated.  Dewey Companies invited Brubacher Excavating, Inc. to help with the demolition of the old house and all of the excavating for the new house.

Brubacher Excavating, Inc. performed the demolition, bulk excavation, undercut, placement of stone, subgrade for basement walls, utility line excavation, excavation and backfill for the retaining wall, backfill for the fiberglass pool, placement and grading stone for sidewalks and driveway and graded the topsoil for the new house.  Brubacher Excavating, Inc. donated equipment and labor to be used throughout the week long project.  Brubacher personnel also became the go-to-guys whenever anyone needed materials hauled or moved.

Not only was Brubacher Excavating, Inc. involved with the demolition and excavation, we had volunteers helping from start to finish.  Joe England, Senior Vice President, Dave Ream, Vice President of Operations and Bill Mead Project Manager of Brubacher Excavating, Inc. helped to oversee the project during the entire four days.  Many other volunteers including equipment operators, site supervisors, laborers, and office employees from Brubacher Excavating, Inc. volunteered on 6 hour shifts around the clock.  Brubacher Excavating, Inc. had approximately 10 volunteers on site working at any given time throughout the entire project.

On Wednesday, March 29, 2006 the Py family returned home to their new house and a huge crowd of family, friends, neighbors and volunteers to welcome them home.  After an emotional “Move the bus” experience the Py family got to see their new home.  The surprise, joy and gratitude that all of the Py family members showed made all of the hard work worth it.  About 50 Brubacher Excavating, Inc. employees attended the reveal of the new house.

The project will air on Sunday April 30th at 8pm eastern time on ABC.
