Brubacher Excavating cares about the environment we share with our neighbors. We believe that we are called to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to our care. It is also our belief that taking good care of the environment in which we live is also good business.

As a result, we...

  1. Reuse all waste oil from trucks and equipment to provide heated buildings.
  2. Clean and recycle the wash water from our truck wash facility for reuse.
  3. Utilize portable crushing and screening equipment to process demolition material such as concrete, asphalt, brick and block for onsite use. We can also crush rocks and boulders into usable stone for utility installations and roadway base material. These activities provide a variety of benefits to the environment:
    • Minimizes construction and demolition waste that would otherwise consume valuable landfill space
    • Eliminates additional truck traffic hauling stone and fill to a project by utilizing material that is already onsite. The additional benefits include less air pollution, tire and fuel consumption; wear on local roads and traffic congestion.
  4. Process the trees, stumps and vegetative material produced during the land clearing phase of a construction project. The material generated is then further refined by third-party processors to create mulch used for landscaping purposes. At times, some of the material is used onsite to create filtration berms to control sedimentation and stormwater runoff during construction. In addition, the processed debris is more compact and results in fewer truck trips leaving the site than other methods.
  5. Provide incentive to our field employees to carpool to our projects by the way our Travel Differential Pay policy is structured.
  6. Recycle the water used in our high-pressure parts washer in our shop.
  7. Regularly update our equipment fleet to take advantage of the newest technology that reduces fuel consumption, emissions and increases productivity and operator comfort.
  8. Recycle worn out metal parts, components and scrap from jobsites.
  9. Recycle batteries and tires after they are no longer useful.
  10. Utilize fuel storage tanks with containment dikes to protect the environment in the event of an unplanned release.
  11. Supply each site with a spill containment kit to use in the event of an accident.
  12. Implement Erosion and Sedimentation Control Best Management Practices on our projects. We employ a Compliance Specialist to aid in the consistent practice of these measures
  13. Incorporate numerous Hybrid vehicles in fleet
  14. An authorized partner in the EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership, a voluntary program that recognizes Partners for setting and achieving reduction goals for greenhouse gases (GHG) and other air pollutants in freight transport.
